Spirit-filled People celebrate mission

Posted by Fr. Tere on 09/25/2016

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been looking forward to a visit from Fr. Jerry and/or Stacy Kramer for well over a year. And it’s happening in two weeks, October 8-9.

“Jerry and Stacy Kramer are missionaries to the Islamic World. For the past thirteen years they have worked overseas and in the United States, “Sharing the Compassion of Christ with an Unreached World.” They define “least” as People Groups less than five percent reached with the Gospel (42% of People Groups globally) and the poorest of the poor especially widows, orphans and refugees.

In 2003, they left home at St. Christopher Church in League City, Texas to serve in Tanzania, East Africa as full time frontline missionaries. In 2005 the Kramers returned to the United States and New Orleans where, with their devastated church of 40 members, they led the second largest, longest running relief operation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

They have recently completed four years of service in Islamic East Africa among the region’s largest previously unreached People Group, training local Believers to reach their neighbours with the Good News of Jesus. There are currently 88 certified Jesus Movements in the world and this particular locale is well on the way to becoming number 89.

On August 8, 2014, when Mosul and Nineveh Province in Iraq fell to ISIS, they heard the call to stop what they were doing and head there to find ways for helping and reaching the 2,000,000+ refugees and IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons). Stacy and Jerry have just recently returned from their eighth mission to Iraq, where they are presently working with the Local Church in organising relief and training area clergy and church workers to share the Gospel and disciple new Believers. The largest movement of Muslims into the Kingdom in history is happening right now in the Middle East. The previously unreached Yezidi are also responding in extraordinary numbers.

Their plans are now to move to Northern Iraq and live among the refugees, coordinating relief and helping refugees relocate long-term in safe areas. They will also continue teaching and training locals in how to effectively share the Gospel with non-Believers and form rapidly multiplying discipleship communities. Certified Jesus Movement number 90 is on the horizon.

Jerry is an Anglican pastor with a graduate degree in Biblical Literature from the University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Stacy holds a degree in Communication from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. They work only as a team, two for the price of one. Their passion is to see the transforming power of God’s love realised in people’s lives, in communities and in nations. They are deeply linked with three orphanages in East Africa; these children are their special joy. They have three above average biological children whom for security reasons are never mentioned.

You can find out more at their ministry website and sign up for their occasional e-newsletter at www.lovefortheleast.org.”

Now they are preparing to learn Arabic and to return full-time to Iraq, just in time for what “The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq warned that [the] Mosul operation would trigger the single largest and most complex humanitarian crisis in the world in 2016.” Never fear, Jerry and Stacy will be there, working to gather the churches together to be the Church – for the first time in history they are beginning to talk with one another and will be working together.

Prepare to be blessed. Prepare to spend time with them. T+
