Spirit-filled People celebrate and honor and VOTE

f then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. … Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.  Colossians 3:1-11

Where's your head at?What a couple of weeks we’ve all had. Awesome, scary, depressing, uplifting, joyous, sad. Just a normal couple of weeks, I guess, with 2 conventions and a possible heart attack thrown in for good measure. Guess who was supreme? You’re right – I knew you’d be right – God was supreme – over all, and in all, and through all, he was supreme. No surprise there. And, as Paul told the Colossians, we have been raised with Christ, for we have died … to all the things of this world. We have been raised above the fear of what heart attacks can bring; above the quibblings and hatred evident in both the Republican and Democrat conventions and posturings and politickings and lyings that constitute modern political races – actually, all political races since we had parties running against one another – or anyone running against anyone else where words were used to convince. That’s about since the beginning of political time.

Remember during the next few (interminable) months – Jesus Christ is Lord of all! We are citizens IN this world, but not OF it. Whoever wins will probably muddle through and not a whole lot will change, but even if it does, this is not our home, the Church will last forever, and we are forgiven, redeemed, crucified with, dead in Christ, raised in Christ. He is our beginning and end, our Alpha and Omega, and God’s Kingdom is supreme over history. He loves us and will bring us with him where he is seated at the right hand of God. The only thing we need to know is that Jesus love us so totally that he chose to come to earth as a human being, move and teach among us, forgive us, and send his Holy Spirit to lead and empower us. Jesus loves us.

All of that does not, however, give us an out about standing for Godly principals while we are here, and making certain our voices are heard above the din – not in anger or argument, simply pointing out the Christian Worldview versus the Secular Worldview promulgated by both parties.

My first point always is to look at the culture of life – Jesus says he is Life and he comes to bring it abundantly. If that is a foundational rock on which we stand, there is stark differences between the cultures as shown in party platforms. Democrats: "We believe unequivocally, … that every woman should have access to quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion." In other places in the platform they vow to repeal the Hyde Amendment to allow for taxpayer funding of abortions, to continue funding Planned Parenthood, to appoint judges who defend abortion. Defining abortion within the greater context of religious freedoms, the Republican Platform “opposes using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage;” calls for banning partial-birth or sex-selection abortions, and requiring care for infants who survive abortion; supports a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorses legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children; “asserts the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. Easy to see a Death Culture vs. a Life Culture. While not definitive or perfect, there is a way to support life in this election.

More Religious rights: Dheads in sandemocratic platform supports unilateral LGBT rights versus everyone else. There appears to be no room for religious objections to whatever the LGBT community decides it wants today (like non-gender-specific restrooms). The Republican platform commends and supports State Constitutional Amendments to support religious, First Amendment rights.

Anyone who follows anything knows the Democrat positions on the Second Amendment: these are enshrined in the Platform, including more background checks, holding arms manufacturers and sellers liable for injuries and deaths of end users, banning all “weapons of war” including “assault weapons,” whatever that is later deemed to mean. The Republican platform condemns all and any actions against the Second Amendment.

Three parts of each Platform. I tried to be fair to both positions and hope it was. There are many other parts of each Platform and I urge you strongly to read each of them, study them, and, as they say, “read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest” them. See how each fits into your Worldview. You have died with Christ; he has raised you from the dead and given you the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth (Jesus). Plead with the Spirit to lead you into all Truth – and vote accordingly. Don’t wimp out and refuse to do your homework and wrestle with a decision. Laugh, love, vote – then go on, knowing you are not a citizen of this world, but of one so much greater.                              Pastor Tere Setting your sights on Jesus
